YouTube Premium is one of the most confusing services to cancel because Google allows you to subscribe through three entirely different billing ecosystems: Apple, Google Play, or directly through YouTube.com.
Deleting the YouTube app from your phone does not cancel the billing. Here is how to find and severe the subscription based on where you bought it.
Method 1: If Billed Through Apple (iPhone/iPad)
If you signed up on an iOS device, Google has no control over your billing. You must cancel through Apple.
Open the Settings App
Open the primary "Settings" app (the gray gear icon) on your iPhone or iPad.
Tap Your Name
Tap your Apple ID name at the very top of the Settings menu.
Cancel Subscription
Tap Subscriptions. Tap YouTube Premium in your active list, then scroll down and tap the red Cancel Subscription button.
Method 2: If Billed Through Google Play (Android)
If you signed up on an Android phone, your billing runs through the Google Play Store framework.
Open Google Play
Launch the Google Play Store app on your Android device.
Payments & Subscriptions
Tap your profile icon in the top right corner. Select Payments & subscriptions, then tap Subscriptions.
Cancel
Select YouTube Premium from the list and tap Cancel subscription at the bottom.
Method 3: If Billed Directly (Web Browser)
If you signed up on a laptop or desktop computer, you bypass Apple/Google entirely. You can cancel this directly on YouTube's website.
- Go to youtube.com/paid_memberships in any web browser and ensure you are logged in to the correct Google account.
- Locate your YouTube Premium row and click Manage membership.
- Click Deactivate. YouTube will try to convince you to pause your membership instead—ignore this and click Continue to cancel.
